Message from the Headmaster

A warm welcome to the Kingsland Primary School website. We hope you enjoy browsing through our various pages and gain a clear insight into the happy daily life of our school.

Kingsland Primary School is situated in the Kingsland area of Holyhead, a port town with direct links to Ireland. According to the 2021 census, the town has a population of around 11,700. Historically, Kingsland was known as Pen-llech or Pen-llechnest, but it was renamed in 1821 to “Kingsland” to mark a visit by King Sior IV on his journey to Ireland.

We are a happy, welcoming school with a strong family ethos. As of December 2025 we have 162 pupils on roll, including 18 in our Nursery class. The school follows the Local Authority’s language policy and the natural language of the school is Welsh. New pupils who have not previously received Welsh-medium education are able to access the Latecomers Centre service, based either at Ysgol Cybi or Ysgol Gymuned Moelfre.

We deliver the Curriculum for Wales, with pupil voice central to our planning and day-to-day practice. The current school building opened in the mid-1970s and, like all schools, has undergone adaptations to meet the requirements of 21st-century education. Our school is warm and homely, with a particular emphasis on ensuring that all pupils feel happy and safe. Our philosophy is that learning flourishes when wellbeing and happiness are firmly in place.

Many of our staff members are trained Trauma-Informed Practitioners, with a dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced team teaching across six classes: Nursery, Reception/Year 1, Year 1/2, Year 3/4, Year 4/5 and Year 5/6. Local projects, fieldwork and educational visits form an integral part of each class’s learning experiences. We have a class called the ‘Nyth’, which provides an alternative curriculum for pupils who struggle to cope in mainstream classes. This can take place for periods during the day, with opportunities for pupils to rejoin their normal classes as appropriate. The Nyth staff are highly experienced and hold relevant qualifications, providing personalised and focused support for every child.

Following feedback from parents, we strongly believe that children need time to relax and pursue interests outside the classroom. For this reason, we do not place heavy emphasis on homework. Instead, we encourage parents and carers to read regularly with their children, support them with weekly spelling and times tables, and most importantly, to provide meaningful experiences, such as visiting the beach or going for a walk in the woods. Spending quality time talking with children and taking an interest in their school life is something we greatly value.

We offer a range of after-school clubs, including reading, pickleball, running and dodgeball - all free of charge to pupils. We also provide daily clubs, including a care club from 8:00am (£1.65 per session) and a breakfast club from 8:25am, which is free for all pupils.

A nutritious daily lunch is provided, and is now free of charge for all full-time pupils. Children can choose between a hot or cold option, with meat or vegetarian dishes, all freshly prepared by our excellent cook and her dedicated team in the school kitchen.

This is just a brief introduction to our vibrant and friendly school here at Kingsland. Any enquiries are warmly welcomed - please feel free to contact me via the email address provided on the website or by contacting our administrative officer.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,
