Y Criw Cymraeg

We are the representatives of Kingsland School’s Criw Cymraeg for 2025–2026; we were elected by our classes, with Mr Hearn and Mrs Scott supporting us, and our aim is to ensure that every child in the school has the best possible opportunity to become bilingual by the time they finish their education at Kingsland School, and to have the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Wales. We meet regularly to discuss matters related to the Welsh language and Welsh identity, and we have the chance to discuss any ideas or concerns with Mr Hearn and the school staff.

Our targets for 2025–2026 are:

  • Run a Yard Games session one lunchtime a week, with each class taking turns
  • Organise a recording every fortnight including Welsh items and music (a recording, not a live broadcast)
  • Ensure there are plenty of opportunities for group work/discussion in Welsh
  • Hold a St Dwynwen’s Day disco on the 25th of January or close to that date
  • Arrange activities for the school’s Welsh Week, including the School Eisteddfod, around March 1st
  • Arrange a talk with Mari Lovegreen about her use of “Wenglish” in her children’s novels and how language evolves
