Welcome to Ysgol Kingsland's website
A warm welcome to the Kingsland Primary School website. We hope you enjoy browsing through our various pages and gain a clear insight into the happy daily life of our school.
Kingsland Primary School is situated in the Kingsland area of Holyhead, a port town with direct links to Ireland. According to the 2021 census, the town has a population of around 11,700. Historically, Kingsland was known as Pen-llech or Pen-llechnest, but it was renamed in 1821 to “Kingsland” to mark a visit by King George IV on his journey to Ireland.
We are a happy, welcoming school with a strong family ethos. As of December 2025 we have 162 pupils on roll, including 18 in our Nursery class. The school follows the Local Authority’s language policy and the natural language of the school is Welsh. New pupils who have not previously received Welsh-medium education are able to access the Latecomers Centre service, based either at Ysgol Cybi or Ysgol Gymuned Moelfre.
We deliver the Curriculum for Wales, with pupil voice central to our planning and day-to-day practice. The current school building opened in the mid-1970s and, like all schools, has undergone adaptations to meet the requirements of 21st-century education. Our school is warm and homely, with a particular emphasis on ensuring that all pupils feel happy and safe. Our philosophy is that learning flourishes when wellbeing and happiness are firmly in place.
Many of our staff members are trained Trauma-Informed Practitioners, with a dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced team teaching across six classes: Nursery, Reception/Year 1, Year 1/2, Year 3/4, Year 4/5 and Year 5/6. Local projects, fieldwork and educational visits form an integral part of each class’s learning experiences. We have a class called the ‘Nyth’, which provides an alternative curriculum for pupils who struggle to cope in mainstream classes. This can take place for periods during the day, with opportunities for pupils to rejoin their normal classes as appropriate. The Nyth staff are highly experienced and hold relevant qualifications, providing personalised and focused support for every child.
